A group will hold a media event to announce an effort to preserve an area structure.

The Lubbock Heritage Society has announced the event to announce their support for the “Save the Godbold” campaign.

The event will be held on Tuesday, March 25th outside Café J at 2605 19th Street at 1:30 p.m.

Pam Brink, president of the Lubbock Heritage Society, said in a press release that “The Godbold Center is in the process of being sold to Clayton Isom, who has indicated he is considering building a high-rise hotel on the land. The Lubbock Heritage Society calls on Mr. Isom to preserve and renovate this historic structure and recognize it as a significant cultural icon of the City of Lubbock.”

The Godbold Center once housed the original St. Mary’s Hospital. It now contains Café J and Chrome. The owner denies that current plans are to tear down the building.

More on the group’s stance is available at www.savethegodbold.com.
