Lubbock Father Arrested After Child Found Alone on the Street

Thirty-year-old Douglas Pruitt was arrested for abandoning or endangering a child after his daughter was found alone in the street.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night, October 23, a four-year-old child was found walking alone on a sidewalk near Milwaukee Avenue and 24th Street. A driver spotted the child and stopped to help. The driver then took the child to a nearby fire station because he was concerned for the girl’s safety.

The child was carrying a set of keys and a cell phone, which officers were able to use to contact the child’s grandmother. The grandmother provided officers the child’s home address.

When police arrived at the home, the child’s father said he had been drinking alcohol and had gone to sleep. He also told the officers that the mother was out of town.
