A dog from the Hub City will compete in a national championship later this month.

Annabelle, a dachshund from Lubbock, will compete for the title of “Top Dog” in the 18th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener National Finals in San Diego on December 30th.

Annabelle secured her spot in the finals after winning the 2013 regional Lubbock race, and is one of nine dogs to participate in the event.

The winner will receive a $1,000 grand price, a ride atop Wienerschnitzel’s float in the parade, and recognition on the field at the 2013 Holiday Bowl.

The event will take place at the San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade.

This is the 11-year-old Annabelle’s second time to represent Lubbock in the Wiener National races.
