A Lubbock child support attorney has received a notable award.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has recognized Lubbock child support attorney Shelly Marshall by naming her “Managing Attorney of the Year.”

Marshall received the honor on Tuesday at the Statewide Child Support Managers’ Meeting in Dallas.

Marshall was selected from among 67 managing attorneys across the state based on recommendations from her peers and supervisors, with a particular focus on her willingness to go beyond her normal duties to serve Texas children.

“Shelly Marshall is an outstanding lawyer and a natural leader whose stewardship of the Child Support Division’s Lubbock office has helped ensure thousands of young Texans receive the child support they need to grow healthy and strong,” said Abbott.

He continued, saying “Thanks to Shelly’s leadership and dedication, Texas is home to one of the nation’s most efficient and effective child support programs.”

Marshall joined the Office of the Attorney General in 1998, and became managing attorney of the Lubbock child support office in 2009. She graduated from the Texas Tech University School of Law.

The Lubbock rural office handles more than 12,000 child support cases and collected $31 million in child support for the state fiscal year that ended on August 31st.
