Is triple digit heat on its way to Lubbock?

It's another warm, West Texas Spring Day and for those looking ahead at what the weather will be over the weekend and into next week, get ready for some hot temperatures according to at least two forecasts. But before that happens, ran chances are on the increase starting on Wednesday.

According to forecasts locally and nationally, Lubbock and the surrounding areas will have a chance of rain and thunderstorms on both Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to be in the upper 80's with a chance of rain in the afternoon or evening. On Thursday, a brief cool down is expected with temperatures expected to be around 73. Thunderstorms are expected Thursday evening.

This weekend, Lubbock could see some very hot temperatures according to two national forecasts. Both the Weather Channel and Weather Underground have high temperatures around 99 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday with a possible high of 101 on Monday.

If Lubbock hits 100 degrees or more on Monday, it would be very early for triple digit heat.

Ron Roberts of KAMC has a slightly different forecast for the weekend with highs only in the low 90's this weekend and 93 degrees on Monday.

Of course, the hot weather is still days away and forecasts will probably change so who knows which forecast is right, but if you are a fan of hot weather, you are probably excited about what's to come.
