Tonight's high winds and dust storm from the haboob has caused some problems within the City of Lubbock.  Lubbock Power & Light crews are still working on restoring power in some parts of the city. Also, downed trees and power lines have created hazards on Lubbock streets.

The City of Lubbock is encouraging citizens to limit their driving tonight.

Lubbock Power and Light crews continue to reestablish power to Lubbock residents who lost electricity during today’s wind storms.  At its peak, LP&L had approximately 3,300 meters without power.  As of 9:35 p.m. Monday night, the number of meters without power was approximately 1,600.  You can report an electric outage by calling LP&L’s 24-hour Operations Center at 775-2555.

City of Lubbock street crews are placing barricades around town, blocking areas where power lines are down and pose a danger to motorists.  These areas include:

2300 Broadway Avenue
1100 Main Street
Idalou Road and E. Erskine
4913 48th Street
42nd Street & Avenue A
E. 10th Street & Vanda
Ave K between 13th-14th Streets

 

Please do not drive around barricades if you come upon one.

Lubbock police report that all traffic signals affected by the storm are back operational.

The City of Lubbock Emergency Operations Center is planning to deactivate at 10:00 p.m.
