Grand Jury Indicts Longtime Suspect in Hailey Dunn Murder Case
A suspect in the decade-plus-long case of the death and disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Darlene Dunn has been indicted.
Dunn was reported missing from Colorado City in December 2010. Three years later in March 2013, her body was found near Lake J.B. Thomas, which is southwest of Snyder in Scurry County.
Shawn Casey Adkins, pictured above, was Dunn’s mother's live-in boyfriend at the time and was a person of interest throughout the investigation.
In June 2021, Adkins was arrested by Texas Rangers in Howard County and charged with murder. Later that month, he was transferred from the Howard County Jail to the Mitchell County Jail.
Adkins was indicted by a Mitchell County Grand Jury on December 30th, 2021 on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence by intentionally and knowingly concealing a human corpse. Authorities allege Adkins struck Dunn with a blunt object and hide the remains.
Adkins remains in the Mitchell County Jail on over $1 million in bonds.
