I can't tell you how many sites I go to with articles about Amazon's Prime Day and the different things you can buy that are discounted. And while you might be able to save a few bucks here and there, you have to ask yourself, is it worth losing a local business?

Don't get me wrong, I've shopped with Amazon, but right now in Lubbock and probably in communities across Texas and the United States, we seem to be facing a critical moment for many small businesses.

I have seen and heard from many business owners that this summer is very, very slow. People just aren't spending money like they were and when you look at the price of food, electricity, gas prices, back to school items, and more it really adds up.

Last night I saw a post on Facebook that really drove home just how bad things are right now for our local businesses in Lubbock. Benny Jackson with Stems by Benny Jackson took to Facebook to warn people about what he is seeing and feeling in the small business community.

There is something much bigger happening to our economy.
I have spoken to others in retail on Lubbock and around and it seems the majority of us are in the same uncharted waters.
Please, if you are in the market for any type of purchasing try a local small business to support first. We small businesses need you for us to survive.
I strongly feel our locally owned small businesses are now very quickly taking a down turn that many if not all simply cannot and will not survive.
Amazon and the likes of Temu have almost won.
Remember, local small businesses are the lifeblood of our community. They are your neighbors and friends. They help sponsor community events, youth teams, and even your favorite radio shows. They keep our citizens employed and they bring good products and services to the community. And shopping locally means our money stays here in the community.
So forget about Amazon for a bit, and go do business with your local small business owners. They need us right now.
