On Thursday's edition of Lubbock's First News Nancy Sharp, director of communication at LISD, talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the resignation of superintendent Dr. Karen Garza.

It was announced yesterday that Dr. Garza accepted the position of superintendent of Fairfax County Schools in Fairfax, Virginia. Garza will be taking the place of Fairfax's superintendent, Jack Dale. The sudden announcement was made simultaneous in Virginia and Texas yesterday afternoon.

Sharp said that things will still run smoothly after Garza's departure and that the school board is working quickly to get an interim superintendent, although no names have been mentioned at this time. She added that she thought Fairfax would be a great match for Garza, and that her former experience in the Houston school districts should serve her well in Virginia.

Fairfax is the 11th largest school district in the nation, and consists of 181,000 students across 200 schools.
