On Friday's edition of Lubbock's First News, LISD superintendent Karen Garza talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the district's new smartphone app.

LISD's new app is designed for parents to have easier access to information on their child's school. The app features event calenders for all school, as well as school contact information, grades, and even school lunch menus. Garza said the new app is part of LISD's goal to find ways to communicate more effectively with parents.

Garza did mention that the app does not include emergency notifications in the event of an emergency. However, she added that this was one of the many features they were looking to add in the next version of the app, which she hopes will be released this summer.

The LISD app is free and available for both iPhones and Android smartphones.
