This past Friday, April 11, KFYO contributor Paul R. Beane announced his retirement from his daily KFYO commentary, effective at the end of the month.  Paul has been hosting the daily The Way I See It feature on KFYO since February 8, 2010. The last day The Way I See It will air is April 30, 2014. Beane is also scheduled to fill in for Chad Hasty on April 21 from 8:30a-11a.

Beane's career in radio and television has taken him all over Texas, and the United States, but the majority of his life has been spent here in Lubbock.

Some of the stations Paul has worked for, and/or held ownership interests in, over the decades before coming to KFYO include his hometown radio station KGVL-AM in Greenville, KSEL-AM & TV in Lubbock (present-day KAMC-TV and KJTV-AM), KLBK-AM & TV in Lubbock (present-day KKAM-AM), KEND-AM in Lubbock (present-day KDAV-AM), KJDL-FM in Lubbock, KRBL-FM in Lubbock, KLZK-FM in Lubbock (present-day KTTU-FM), KRFE-AM in Lubbock, KLVT-AM & FM in Levelland, KILT-AM in Houston, XETRA-AM Tijuana/ San Diego/ Los Angeles (present-day XEWW-AM), WNUS-FM Chicago (present-day WGCI-FM) and additional stations in Texas.

Paul's career has had a steep foundation in news; serving as either a news director, news anchor & reporter or discussing the news while hosting talk shows and commentaries. He also served as a fill-in host for Chad Hasty and Robert Pratt's shows over the past few years.

In his life outside of media, Beane served as an elected official, representing District 4 on the Lubbock City Council from 2008-2012. He's also an avid golfer and former USGA Official.

As far as what the future holds, as Paul said during his Friday commentary, he will be spending retirement with his family, catching up on his fishing and hunting, playing golf and traveling.

If you'd like to send Paul a note of 'well wishes', send an e-mail to robertsnyder@townsquaremedia.com   We will read a few of them on the air and post the e-mails online in a future installment. Also, through April 30, 2014, you can call 806-776-5275 and leave Paul Beane a "Happy Trails" voicemail.  We will play them on the air May 1st and 2nd at 1:30p.

Finally, I found an old campaign video for Paul on YouTube. It's essentially a biography and features some highlights from Paul's life and career in media. You can watch it right here on KFYO.com

On behalf of everyone at KFYO, we wish a good retirement to Paul Beane and thank him for his guidance, generosity and time over the past four years.
