Friday on KFYO Mornings with Dave King and Matt Martin Councilwoman Karen Gibson joined the show for her last time as part of the city council to talk about the anniversary of the Lubbock Tornado, annexations, citizens tower, the coliseum-auditorium, and LBK Alert.

Gibson discussed the votes for the annexations into Lubbock, a move that she was against with the exception of one annexation, being the Lubbock airport and runways. She explained that even though many citizens are against these annexations, they are to be expected in a city that is growing about 1.5-2% per year, saying,

"That's just part of it. As a city grows, as people come in, as businesses come in, the city is going to grow."

The councilwoman also discussed the progress on citizens tower, saying that we are on track for both the timeline and budget. Additionally, as far as the vote on the coliseum-auditorium goes, she is glad to see that the vote went through to abandon them.

Finally Gibson talked about LBK Alert, a service that you can sign up on at https://www.ci.lubbock.tx.us. The service will allow you to choose what kinds of alerts you want to receive, and then they will be texted to your cell phone.
