[WATCH] Downtown Lubbock Is Not A Dumping Ground

Downtown Lubbock has been going through a lot of big changes. Out with the old and in with the new. Several tired and worn-out buildings are being renovated or demolished, new businesses are popping up left and right, and the vibe feels completely different now than back in the 90s when I was a kid.

Growing up, we never spent very much time in downtown Lubbock. It seems scary there. We all pretty much avoided it unless we had to go to the library, the courthouse, or the Civic Center. It didn't really have much to offer, and there usually wasn't a reason to be there at all.

But, I'm telling you, it's changing.

Downtown Lubbock is starting to hold itself to a higher standard, and it would be really cool if everyone could get on board. One way you can really help is by treating the area with the same respect you would your grandmother's house. That means, not dumping your old mattresses, ripped-up couches, and bulky furniture by random dumpsters...and then driving away.

It really sucks that people think that behavior like this is acceptable. It's not. It has a direct effect on business owners and residents. Whether you realize it or not, downtown Lubbock is also a neighborhood. They don't want or need your extra garbage.

Grow up and take it to the dump like everyone else.

Please help to keep Lubbock beautiful. We could really make things nicer around here if we work together and put forth a little effort when it comes to where we put our garbage. We can all do better.
