[UPDATE: Double Dave's gave us a complete explanation as to the closure, see below]

A Texas-based pizza chain is closing one of its Lubbock locations. Double Dave's, which began in 1984 in College Station, currently has two Lubbock locations. The 15-year lease on 6023 82nd Street is up at the end of October and Double Dave's has chosen not to renew.

The location at 4206 19th will remain open and will continue to deliver to "most of Lubbock".

If you thought Double Dave's was a locally owned pizza place, you're not alone, and you're also half right. I thought Double Dave's was 100% local until I began a little research for this article. Double Dave's has pizza locations in over 30 Texas cities and even a few in Oklahoma. It is franchisable, and both Lubbock locations are owned by Scott and Alison Mosier. It's apparent to me that they've done a fabulous job of making their Double Dave's feel very "Lubbock". And Lubbock people love it. So why is the second location coming to an end?

Here's Double Dave's response about the closure:

Our landlord has been so wonderful to work with, we hate leaving her. We tried figuring out a way to make the 82nd Street location smaller but there wasn’t a feasible way that would leave a leasable space. And it is too big without the buffet traffic. I promise if the buffet was a successful business model, we would have brought it back…it is not, at least not for us. We hope to bury some debt and look at opening another smaller location in south Lubbock. Right now, we are taking one day at a time. DoubleDave’s just celebrated 23 years here in Lubbock. We are grateful for those that continue to support us and hope to be making pizzas & Pepperoni Rolls for many more years!

Sadly, this is just one of many closures on a long list since 2021. This marks the 4th pizza place I can think of that's closed this year alone, with two 1000 Degrees and Pepe's having already bit the dust.

I am glad that we get to keep at least one Double Dave's location here in Lubbock- those pizza rolls are really delicious.
