Is Aldi Grocery Store Coming to Lubbock? Here’s What We Know

I recently told y'all we found out that Trader Joe's isn't coming to Lubbock anytime soon, and a lot of people asked, 'what about Aldi?' Honestly I had no idea what 'Aldi' was, so I looked into it for you guys.

Aldi is a grocery store that was founded in 1946. According to Google, "Aldi is the common company brand name of two German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chains operating over 10,000 stores in 20 countries and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion."

I reached out to the company, who told me they're growing and expanding but currently do not have any stores planned for Lubbock this year.

Aldi's does have some stores around Texas and even one in Abilene. But a store that picks Abilene over Lubbock? That's just crazy. Lubbock already has great grocery stores here that would compete with them.

So for everyone who wanted Aldi to come to Lubbock, I'm sorry, but they will not be here anytime soon.

But honestly, I don't think we need them too bad because we already have United Supermarkets, who have been here since day one. The company also does so much for Lubbock, from giving back to the community and supporting Texas Tech University athletics and the school in general.

Here's what Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt had to say about United Supermarkets back in 2020 when the pair extended naming rights for the United Supermarkets Arena, home to Texas Tech Basketball.

"United Supermarkets Arena remains one of the premier basketball facilities in the country and that's thanks in part to such a loyal and trusted partner in United, Hocutt said. "We can't thank United enough for its continued support of this athletics program and our more than 400 student-athletes."

I've never been to an Aldi store since I'm a Texas girl and support local, so I think Lubbock is good to go.
