How much would you pay for a good cup of coffee? What about a great cup of coffee? We all know there is cheap coffee and coffee that some would consider expensive. In fact, I still remember people complaining about the price of coffee at some national chains and those national chains are doing very well.

But I've never seen a cup of coffee cost as much as Proud Mary Cafe was selling it for in Austin this week. The coffee they sold this week is rare. In fact, they only had enough to sell 10 cups total across Proud Mary's locations. In order to get a cup, you had to get there early and wait, and then open your wallet. The price for the cup of coffee? According to KXAN, $150.00 and no that isn't a type. One hundred and fifty dollars for the award winning coffee.

The coffee, called Black Jaguar, was from a winning lot in the Best of Panama competition – a contest started in 1996 that gives Panamanian producers an opportunity to promote their harvests – and is produced by the Hartmann family, who has been growing in the region since the early 20th century. He said elevating the prices of the beans acquired from the region helps the producers get fair wages for their work as well.

Ryan said that the Black Jaguar lot had one of the highest scores since the competition began and that it tasted like “magic.” “When you have got the best coffees in the country that grows the best coffee in the world, you know whatever hits the top of that, is going to be something insane.”

Jak Ryan of Proud Mary told KXAN that he "believes coffee can be revered and followed just like wine". And while they may be true for some, if I'm paying $150 for wine or whiskey, I normally get a bottle, not a few ounces.

I'll give it to them though, they sold out of the $150 coffee. I just wonder, how good can it really be?
