A high-speed chase through parts of the South Plains on Wednesday, September 1, ended near Wilson.

Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on the Marsha Sharp Freeway and Interstate 27 for a traffic violation, but the vehicle evaded arrest beginning the pursuit.

Everything Lubbock reports the chase went on for approximately 20 minutes, starting around East Regis Street, continuing through the Buffalo Springs Lake area, onto U.S. 84 into Slaton, and then FM 400 through Wilson. The chase finally ended at mile marker 236, about 2 miles south of Wilson.

The driver, 26 year-old Jeremy Leland Garcia, was taken by EMS to University Medical Center. It’s believed that Garcia swallowed methamphetamines to hide them.

A passenger in the vehicle, 24 year-old Brooke Lyones, was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

A look at Lubbock County jail records revealed this is not the first time Garcia led authorities on a pursuit. Garcia has previous charges of evading arrest in September 2013 and again later that year in November. Various drug charges are listed as well.
