Groundbreaking for a new wind research facility in Lubbock will take place Tuesday.

Texas Tech, the U.S. Department of Energy, Sandia National Laboratories, Vestas Wind Systems and Group NIRE will break ground for wind turbines at a new facility.

The groundbreaking for wind turbines at the new Scaled Wind Farm Technology Facility will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17th at Reese Technology Center, located at 9801 Reese Boulevard.

The entities formed a partnership last April to create the new wind research facility. Sandia will add two V27 research turbines at the site, and Vestas will add its own V27 turbine. The facility could expand to ten turbines in the future.
