Governor Greg Abbott designated March 18 as Brain Injury Awareness Day as the Texas House passed a resolution recognizing March as Brain Injury Awareness Month throughout the state.

The governor’s office estimates two million Texans are living with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and that 144,000 sustained TBI’s in 2014.

A press release said in part, “People living with brain injuries want the same things we all want: a good job, someone to love, a nice home, and fun in their lives. They want to be defined by who they are as people, not by their injuries.”

The Brain Injury Association of America – Texas Division (BIAA - TX) assists victims and their families in finding rehabilitative, legal, financial and other support services. They can be contacted at 1-800-444-6443.
