It's a sign that summer is around the corner. Lubbock's municipal pools are getting ready to open.

As temperatures rise and kids get out of school for the summer, the pools in Lubbock become very popular places to gather throughout the city and cool down while having fun.

The City of Lubbock announced that pools in Lubbock will officially open on Friday, May 28th at 1 p.m. Hours of operation at all Lubbock pools are Tuesday through Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m. Entrance fees are $2 for youth (17 and under), and $3 for adults. For a day of fun in sun and a cool pool, that isn't bad at all.

Summer always takes me back to my younger days when I was kid and every day, or at least it seemed like it was every day, my friends and I would head to the pool and just hang out with other friends. It was a great part of summer and a great excuse to get out of the house for a few hours.

And with above ground pools still in short supply thanks to the pandemic, for many, the local municipal pools are the only option they have to cool down during the Summer.

Below are the locations of Lubbock's municipal pools.

  • Mae Simmons Pool, 24th Street & MLK Boulevard
  • Montelongo Pool, 3200 Bates Street
  • Clapp Pool, 46th Street and Avenue U
  • Maxey Pool, 4007 30th Street

If you still have questions about the pool openings or rules, you can call the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Office at (806) 775-2673. Get ready for summer pool season in Lubbock beginning next Friday, May 28th. And don't forget the sunscreen!
