A former Slaton police officer has been sentenced to nearly 7 years in prison for downloading child pornography.

50-year-old Richard Lee Lewis of Slaton admitted to using peer-to-peer file-sharing programs to intentionally download pornographic images and videos of children.

While executing a search warrant on Lewis’ home in May, authorities seized three computers, and found numerous images and videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Lewis pleaded guilty in September 2011 to one count of receiving child pornography, and was sentenced Thursday to 70 months in prison, followed by a 10-year term of supervised release. He has been ordered to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons in late January 2012.
