Just before 4 a.m., a canine officer made a sweep of pedestrians waiting to gain entry into the U.S. When the canine came across one 56-year-old man in particular, it immediately gave a positive alert that there were illegal narcotics in the vicinity.

The man was put through an initial exam which didn't fully confirm that he was hiding anything, but officers knew something wasn't right with this guy. So, they sent him to further examination at a nearby medical facility where foreign objects were indeed discovered to be hidden inside his rectum.

The Waiting Game

After the man was caught, it took him an hour and a half to pass the TWO bundles, one with filled with blue pills and the other with a white powder, both wrapped in condoms. The powder and blue bills, both later confirmed to be fentanyl, weighed a total of 132.4 grams.

CBP El Paso Port Director Ray Provencio voiced his support and congratulations to his team for stopping this deadly drug from reaching American streets:

Smuggling fentanyl internally is exceptionally dangerous, and we would advise anyone considering this to think twice and not risk their life or liberty.

The man was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security for further investigations and to receive the charges associated with this failed smuggling attempt.
