Every city has crime, and some cities see more laws broken by citizens than others. When it comes to Lubbock, what are the most common violations and where are they committed the most?

Thanks to the Lubbock Police Department's (LPD) Crime & Safety webpage, we can see the full map of crime hotspots. If you're like me, then you'll be surprised to see what the most common crime was over the last seven days.

Most Common Lubbock Crimes

According to LPD, the most common crimes in no particular order that Lubbock encounters each day includes the following:

  • Vehicle break-ins
  • Vandalism
  • Larceny
  • Motor Vehicle theft
  • Fraud
  • DUI
  • Assault
  • Disturbing the peace
  • Burglary

Now, here's the kicker: Can you guess the one crime that officers respond to the most? That would be assault. In fact, over the past week, 17 of the last 59 records (29%) fell into this category.

It's important to remember that assault crimes can vary heavily. For instance, some of the assault charges Lubbock has recently seen include continuous violence against the family, intentionally injuring a child or elderly/disabled person, harassment, and stalking.

The second most common crime over the past week in Lubbock was vehicle break-ins. A lot of people hear about these crimes, and some, myself included, have been victims of people gaining access to another's vehicle and stealing items.

How to Prevent Vehicle Break-Ins

This is why LPD advises all citizens to remove or hide valuable items when you leave your vehicles unattended. This includes the most common stolen item: guns. You should always park your car in well-lit areas or, the best option, in your garage.

If you know that someone broke into your vehicle and stole something, you can call the non-emergency number, (806) 775-2865, and report an online file to attempt to recover your items or money.

Keep an eye on the Lubbock Crime Map to see where the most common offenses are happening here in town.

Lubbock is an amazing city, but like all cities, crime is always a problem. Just make sure you take the proper safety precautions and know who to call when things turn sideways. I'd start with the Lubbock Police Department contact page if I were you.
