Texas Tech’s Felipe Soares Named Two-Time All-American
Junior Felipe Soares became the second Red Raider to be named All-American in both men’s singles and doubles tennis in the same season when he earned the designation from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2015 season Thursday.
Soares is one of 10 players nationally to earn the double recognition this season. The only other Red Raider to earn the double recognition was Gonzalo Escobar n 2012.
Soares led Tech to its 14th appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament before falling to eventual national champion Ryan Shane of University of Virginia.
Soares also joined Hugo Dojas to finish National Runner-Up in the men’s doubles event. The tandem becomes just the third and fourth players at Texas Tech to pick up All-America honors, joining Raony Carvalho (2010, 2012) and Escobar (2012), who coincidentally also finished National Runner-Up in the doubles bracket back in 2012 as well.
