Joel Osteen is a man set on being positive and having “Your best life now” in his sermons at his mega-church in Houston, TX. This story might not be so positive for Osteen to spin this time.

Federal prosecutors have forced a Mexican drug trafficker, Jorge Vazquez Sanchez, to turn over his stake in a planned prequel to Mel Gibson’s blockbuster movie “The Passion of the Christ.” The movie, “Mary, Mother of Christ,” is being funded by Osteen also and he has denied any knowledge of Sanchez being involved in the process.

Osteen most likely didn’t know about Vazquez, much less ever meeting the guy. However, I don’t see a legitimate reason for a church spending any amount of money on a movie based largely on legend. As a Christian, the money put up by Lakewood Church could be better served for missionaries in the 10/40 window or mercy ministries, but I digress.

The Federal government will receive a cut of any profits made, up to 10%, from the movie if it ever makes it to the big screen. The Associated Press has written that the tax payers will get a cut of the money, but we all know that is fantasy the way we have run government as of late in America. Aloe Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based production company that paid more than $900,000 for the script, said it knew nothing about Vazquez, who was sentenced to seven years in prison.

I know that Osteen loves having a good public image without ever having to say much about anything except “think positive” and “God wants you to be rich.” I have no idea if the movie about Mary will be good or will be bad enough to be relegated to the religious television channels. You know the channels which always beg for your money so Bishop Swindler can buy another private jet while you receive a vile of the Sweat from the Apostle Paul.

Osteen and the other financial supporters of this movie are looking to wash the stain of Vazquez away from the project, but how accurate will this movie be if Osteen is funding since he can’t hardly quote scripture when asked by Piers Morgan or Larry King on softball issues of the faith?
