Lori Stephens, Evans Middle School Assistant Principal, has been selected as the middle school principal of the year for the state of Texas. She was selected by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Board of Directors (TASSP). The honor entitles Stephens consideration for the National Association of Secondary School Principals Assistant Principal of the Year.

Candidates for the award are selected based upon the excellence they have demonstrated in professional growth and development, collaborative leadership, instruction and assessment, letters of recommendation; as well as an interview with the committee. The committee's decision to award Stephens was unanimous.

Archie McAffee, the TASSP Executive Director, said of Stephens, “Lori’s written application and professional reputation convinced the committee that she was the best candidate to represent the quality school administrators leading Texas secondary schools.”

Evans Middle School Principal Flo Touchstone praised Stephens, “Lori has a great rapport with students as well as with teachers. Everybody at our campus knows that if you need something, go to Lori, she’ll get it done. She’s such a champion and a cheerleader for education—and her enthusiasm is contagious.”
