Bodies of Drowned Father and Son Recovered in North Texas Creek
A father and his son were fishing at a creek over the weekend when their family watched with horror as they each went into the water and never resurfaced.
Father-Son Fishing Trip
According to WFAA, 26-year-old Fernando Carlos and his 6-year-old son, Noah, were at Mountain Creek Lake with their family when Noah slipped and fell into the water.
Without skipping a beat, Fernando leapt into the creek to go after his son who had been pulled under by the current. As his fatherhood instincts kicked in, he didn't care about what harm he was jumping into, only that he had to save his son.
The current, however, did not cease and pulled the father under as well.
Horrified Onlookers
According to CBS News Texas, Jose Carlos, Fernando's brother, described the terrifying experience as he and other members of the family watched the events unfold.
Jose immediately attempted to jump in as well to go after his brother and nephew, but stayed out of the water when he realized he would meet the same fate if he did so.
While running along the shoreline and yelling for the two to swim towards him, Jose said he eventually lost sight of them both.
Recovery Efforts
The combined efforts of three separate agencies, Dallas Fire-Rescue, Dallas Police Department and the Game Warden's Office, were used to locate the bodies of the father and son.
The agencies were notified of the incident at 1:30pm and it wasn't until 5pm that they found Fernando's body. His son, Noah, was still missing and wasn't found until the next day when his body washed ashore near Mi Familia Park in Grand Prairie.
Jose Carlos told CBS News Texas that his family is very emotional following what happened, and some members are still in denial of their heavy loss.
