On the Tuesday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, District 5 city councilwoman Karen Gibson spoke with guest host Paul R. Beane about the latest going on in Lubbock City Council.

One of the more recent matters to come across city council is a proposed 2.5 cent tax increase. Gibson opposes the increase, and explained that after examining the city budget, she sees no purpose to increase taxes. She added that the increase in city growth was another reason to decline the tax increase. However, Gibson added that at the moment, it seems there are enough votes to pass the tax increase

Gibson also spoke about the Omni building, which is currently undergoing a feasibility study by the city. She said that at the moment, there are no offers to buy the building nor any plans for how the city can re-purpose the building. She added that even if the city decides not to purchase the building, they would still have to deal with the cost of demolishing the property.

Gibson also shared her thoughts on water rate decreases, the feasibility of a new dog park, and why she opposes a city-wide indoor smoking ban.
