The Democratic Party could hold their national political convention in the Lone Star State in 2016.

Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell announced that Austin is under consideration by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to host the national convention which would bring millions of dollars to Austin and thousands of delegates from around the country.

The city will have to submit a formal bid to the DNC convention committee.

Leffingwell will discuss specifics of a proposal request from Congresswoman and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz at a 1:15pm meeting at City Hall.

The Republican Party is reportedly looking at both Phoenix and Las Vegas as potential sites for their 2016 National Convention.
