The South Plains Fair gets started this Thursday evening beginning at 6 p.m. and will run from September 24 through October 2. Earlier in the week, I gave you a small preview of what to expect at this year's South Plains Fair, but something else was announced today.
Along with being able to get a corn dog, turkey leg, and cheese on a stick, citizens of Lubbock will be able to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. The City of Lubbock Health Department announced on Twitter on Wednesday that beginning on September 24 through October 2nd, they will be set up at The South Plains Fair. The Health Department will be operating a pop-up clinic Monday through Saturday 11a.m. until 7 p.m. On Sunday, the pop-up clinic will open at 1 p.m. and close at 7 p.m.
The City of Lubbock Health Department will be offering all three vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. Remember, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is the only vaccine that is a single shot vaccine.
Those who get vaccinated at the South Plains Fair will receive a free ride ticket for any of the rides at South Plains Fair.
Lubbock is continuing to see cases of COVID-19 due to the spread of the delta variant. Last year The South Plains Fair saw a decrease in vendors and customers but expect this year to look more like 2019. While there won't be any musical acts performing inside the coliseum, there won't be any COVID-19 restrictions on guests who attend the fair. There is no mask requirement and there will be hand sanitizers set up around the fairgrounds.
