Corn Dogs, Turkey Legs & Games: The South Plains Fair Opens Thursday
It's a sign that fall has arrived in Lubbock. The South Plains Fair will open the gates to the public beginning Thursday, September 23rd which will feature Buck-A-Ride Night where all rides cost just $1 each from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
If you went to the South Plains Fair in 2020 and walked away disappointed, this year should feel like a normal year for the fair. While there won't be any coliseum shows this year due to COVID-19, there are supposed to be more vendors and entertainment overall. Many non-profit organizations count on high attendance at The South Plains Fair in order to make money for the organization. 2020 was a down year, but crowds are expected back this year.
While Lubbock does seem to see a few showers while the fair is in town, the forecast looks like it will be nice over the next 10 days. That means plenty of opportunities for people to make it out to the fair and to get some of that delicious fair food we love.
According to KAMC, fair officials are hoping that this year will be a lot like 2019, but they will also be looking out for people's health by having hand sanitizers up:
“We’re hoping this is going to be just like 2019,” said Wallace, “We call it a normal year, we are so concerned about the safety and the health, but I felt like people are gonna want to come out, we want to invite them out, have a good time. Get your fair fix, that’s what we always say and and there’s something for everyone.”
Wallace said they are following guidelines from the city on COVID safety and will make hand sanitizers accessible to the public. However, they will not require fair-goers to wear a mask.
The South Plains Fair opens Thursday, September 23rd at 6 p.m. From September 24th through October 2nd, regular fair hours are in effect: Sunday through Thursday 8 a.m. until 11 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays 8 a.m. until midnight. Paid parking and paid admission begins at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
