Continuing Effects Of COVID, Online Commerce On South Plains Economy [INTERVIEW]
On Friday's edition of The Chad Hasty Show, James Arnold, President and CEO of ABC Bank in Lubbock, joined the broadcast to talk about the state of the Lubbock and South Plains economy.
Arnold and Hasty discussed the positives of the economy and the continuing strong housing market, as well as the negatives, with the ongoing effects of coronavirus restrictions and the resulting migration to online shopping by many people.
Arnold said,
I think you're going to see, sadly, some retail businesses in Lubbock not make it through 2021. It's been a major shift obviously, with the pandemic and stay at home, online shopping has exploded. It was already trending that way very strongly prior to the pandemic, and all the coronavirus did is push more and more people, reluctantly or not, into online shopping at the expense of our local retailers.
