On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the latest issues coming out of Washington.

Unemployment has become a growing concern in this country, and the numbers have been on the rise in the last few years. Neugebauer said that these numbers are not even accounting for those who are employed only part time or those who have stopped looking for jobs altogether.

We've seen a large number, millions of people, that are dropping out of the workforce, that have gotten frustrated and just quit looking for work...so these unemployment numbers are misleading. I think overall, when you look at the economy for job growth in this country, we're still very weak. We are not creating enough jobs to just keep up with the normal population growth in our country.

Neugebauer said the main reason people were not looking for jobs as much as they used to is because the government has given so many incentives to the unemployed that no one wants to find work. He also blamed the government for the lack of business owners hiring, saying that the government was slamming businesses with regulations, Obamacare being the most obvious. Neugebauer said that Obamacare is a major concern for business owners, since it is not clear what the exact effects of the new health care program will be on businesses.
