The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has recently issued a reward for any information on a 2019 cold case murder that took place in the Lone Star State.

The body of the victim, 37-year-old Courtney Allan Sholar, was found five years after he was reported missing by family.

Texas Cold Case Mystery Murder

Sholar worked in multiple oil field jobs before his death, and he was traveling from Oklahoma to Texas at the time of his disappearance on June 29, 2019.

The 37-year-old, nicknamed "Opie," never made it to his destination in Texas and was reported missing for five years. On May 16, 2024, Sholar's body was finally found in Eastland County.

It is unclear so far as to what events led to his death, but DPS confirmed it was indeed murder.

Cash Reward for Information

Texas DPS is offering a $6,000 reward for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of responsible individuals tied to Sholar's murder.

Sholar's case is actively being investigated through a joint effort of the Texas Rangers and the Eastland County's Sheriff's Office. DNA evidence has been submitted and multiple witnesses have stepped forward to provide crucial information, but investigators are asking for more.
