An 8-year-old in Odessa, Texas, has died after being in the hospital for a week from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Tragic Child's Death In Odessa, Texas

The shooting happened on April 7, and was a result of an alleged escalated argument.

Odessa Police Department responded to a call of a drive by shooting. While the officers were on their way to the apartment complex on the 1000 block of W Monahans Street, dispatch informed them that an 8-year-old child who was shot was rushed from that location to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The boy was later flown to a hospital in Lubbock for further treatment, given the severity of his life-threatening injuries.

When police arrived on the scene, they were met with a trail of blood inside the residence and bullet holes in the apartment walls and nearby vehicles.

Nearby witnesses informed Odessa PD that they saw two men walking away from the apartment after the shots were fired and a Mercedes in the alleyway.

When investigators spoke with the child's mother, she told them that she had gotten into an argument with one of the men. He then left the residence before returning a few hours later when the mother was upstairs. This was when she heard gunshots coming from the downstairs room. After running to see what happened, she found her son on the floor with a gunshot wound to his head.

Odessa PD updated the public after further details were revealed:

They say that three people have been placed in custody with ties to the murder of the child. Anthony Ramon and Santon Ramon, who are both 24 years old, were arrested for their involvement. 22-year-old Keemadrick Sauls was also arrested by Odessa PD.

All three have been charged with injury to a child, aggravated assault, deadly conduct, and capital murder.
