Two Border Busts, Over $1.1M in Cocaine & Meth Seized in Texas
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is back at it with seizing hundreds of pounds of illegal drugs in short time frames. However, some particular events stand out more than others.
Massive Cocaine Bust Along Texas Border
Take recent efforts, for example. On June 27, CBP officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge Port of Entry stopped a suspicious white SUV attempting to make entry from Mexico.
The vehicle was sent to secondary inspection and a canine team was deployed to sniff out any funny business, and funny business they found. 20 packages of what officers believed to be cocaine were discovered with a combined weight of just over 50 pounds.
The estimated street value of this haul was $668,700.
Meth Bust at Texas Border
When it rains, it pours. Also on June 27, CBP officers at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge sent a 2011 Toyota Sienna to secondary inspection. This was when 14 packages of meth were found, totaling 55.86 pounds dispersed among the driver's belongings.
The estimated street value of this bust was roughly $513,692, and Laredo Port Director Alberto Flores highlighted the efficacy of his team in stopping shipments like these from entering the U.S.
This methamphetamine interception is a testament to the skill and commitment of our CBP officers at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge. Their dedication to our border security mission continues to disrupt the operations of transnational criminal organizations and protect our communities from the dangers of illicit narcotics.
Both instances of drug seizures resulted in the drivers to be apprehended before Homeland Security opened investigations on the matters.
