Two of Texas’s Most Wanted Sex Offenders Caught in Back-to-Back Days
Two men from Texas' Most Wanted Sex Offenders list have been captured in just two consecutive days. The combined $6,000 reward for their arrest will not be paid, however.
Derrick Flowers' Capture in Texas
On October 8, a Texas Highway Patrol trooper in Houston conducted a routine traffic stop on 44-year-old Derrick Van Flowers.
Through use of information gathered during previous investigations, Flowers was discovered to be wanted out of Harris County since April for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements. He was then detained without incident.
Flowers' charges date back to 2008 when he was convicted of sexual assault of a child that involved a girl who was just 15 years old at the time. He was convicted of failure to comply with sex offender requirements once before in 2010.
Flowers was listed on Texas' Most Wanted Sex Offenders with a $3,000 reward, but the money will not be paid following his arrest because it was not the result of a Crime Stoppers tip.
The Capture of Spencer Giron in Texas
Just one day later on October 9, 48-year-old Spencer Mandell Giron was also caught during a traffic stop, this time in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Texas DPS was notified, and Giron was placed into custody.
Giron had been wanted out of Jefferson County since June of this year also for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements. The $3,000 reward will not be paid for Giron's arrest.
Giron's charges stem from an incident in 1998 when he was convicted of sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl. He received an 11-year sentence, but was sentenced for four years in prison shortly after in 2017 for a federal drug offense.
