Buc-ee’s Deal Not Official in Amarillo, What Does That Mean for Lubbock?
Back in February, we told you that the City of Amarillo officially approved a Buc-ee's to open. However, it's not that simple.
We all thought it was a done deal because the Amarillo City Council vote unanimously to approve a Buc-ee's Travel Center at the southeast corner of E I-40 and Airport Blvd. New information from MyHighPlains.com claims officials from Buc-ee's told them they have not yet purchased land in Amarillo. They told them that "there is a land dispute among the current owners of the property."
In a statement that came from MyHighPlains.com, the officials from Buc-ee's said:
“Buc-ee’s has not yet purchased property in Amarillo. Buc-ee’s has a tract of land under contract and the present owner of the tract is involved in a dispute with the adjacent landowner. Buc-ee’s hopes to bring its award-winning restrooms, great food and cheap gas to Amarillo once the dispute has been resolved.”

If they can come to an agreement, the chain would establish the construction of a 53,000-square-foot travel center. The new business is set to take up about 20 acres.
Also in the article, they wrote, "according to the Potter-Randall Appraisal District, there are three property owners in the vicinity of where the Buc-ee’s was expected to be located. This includes Attebury Farm LLC out of Amarillo, Speedco Inc. out of Dallas and Roserock Holdings LLC out of Tulsa, Oklahoma."
For now I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with Buc-ee's in Amarillo. Maybe this problem will help Buc-ee's execs realize how easy-peasy Lubbock is. If anyone at Buc-ee's is reading this, Lubbock is ready for you and will make it a lot easier on you if the Amarillo thing doesn't work out.
