Two people have been arrested following a chase that ended in a crash in Lubbock Wednesday night.

The Lubbock Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Woodrow Road at around 10:30 p.m. for reports of a theft in progress. On arrival, Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputies saw the suspected vehicle fleeing the scene.

At one point, the driver tried to cross Interstate 27, causing him to lose control and hit the center median. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Rocky Cardona, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Two additional suspects were located at the crime scene and arrested. They’ve been identified as 38-year-old Yuri Mendoza and 51-year-old Leroy Salazar. Salazar and Mendoza have been charged with engaging in organized crime and theft of property. Additionally, Mendoza had a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Both suspects remain booked in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
