Update: According to the Lubbock Police Department, the man involved in the Parkway Drive crash Tuesday night, 54-year-old Darnell Johnson, has passed away.

The victim in the March 4th crash, 44-year-old Jimmy Hewlett, Jr., remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, said police.

Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt released the following statement regarding an investigation into the former crash:

On Thursday, March 7th, Lubbock Police Department crash investigators will temporarily shut down parts of Avenue Q at 26th Street starting at 9 a.m. to continue this crash investigation. All northbound lanes in this area will be shut down and traffic will be diverted east on 27th Street. The left southbound lane will also be shut down. This closure is expected to last a couple of hours.


Original story: Tuesday night, a pedestrian was struck by a car in northeast Lubbock. It’s the second night in a row police have dealt with such an accident.

The pedestrian was hit in the 2600 block of Parkway Drive at around 9 p.m., according to Lubbock Police Department. One person is said to be in critical condition at University Medical Center. LPD crash investigators are working to determine exactly what happened.

In related news, an unidentified 44-year-old bicyclist was struck by a vehicle Monday night at 27th and Avenue Q. He was also taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries.
