Amarillo Man Admits to Giving Guns to Kids to Commit Shootings
An Amarillo man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
31 year-old Roaryrious "Buddy" Perkins was convicted of the crime in June and was sentenced on Thursday, October 28th.
Court documents say in September 2018, authorities found a Smith & Wesson .45 caliber handgun inside the wall of a hotel room being rented by Perkins and two other individuals. An investigation of the firearm revealed that it had been used in four separate drive-by shootings in Amarillo.
In January 2019, authorities arrested Perkins after a trespassing incident. At the scene, a Springfield 9mm pistol was found, which Perkins said he'd purchased for his significant other. Perkins admitted that he possessed the pistol in spite of laws prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms.
During his sentencing hearing, Perkins said he provided firearms and money to children to commit shootings on his behalf. On one particular occasion, Perkins offered money to shoot at a specific person.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations' Dallas Field Office, the United States Marshal Service, and the Amarillo Police Department spearheaded the investigation. Assistance was provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.
