A package originally thought to be suspicious was found at a local retirement home Tuesday afternoon.

The Lubbock Fire Department and emergency crews were called to Lubbock’s Carillon Lifecare Community just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, after a package was found containing a white powder.

It turns out of that the package and powder did not contain any hazardous substances, but as a precaution, a number of Carillon employees were put through decontamination.

The all clear was given at Carillon Lifecare at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Any package with white powder is treated as though it contains anthrax until testing proves otherwise.
