Can't stop, won't stop with the photoshops.

Yes, this is a great story that we had to ruin with cheap jokes because THAT'S WHAT WE DO.

Meet Alex Tetarenko. She is Texas Tech University's NASA Einstein Fellow, which means she is WAAAYYYY smarter than you.

She was also part of the team that captured the first images of a massive black hole at the center of our galaxy. No, it wasn’t found on Avenue Q.

Pretty cool, huh?

According to a release from Texas Tech, the image "provides overwhelming evidence that the object is indeed a black hole and yields valuable clues about the workings of such giants, which are thought to reside at the center of most galaxies.”

Tetarenko, who specializes in studying rapidly varying emissions from black holes, was able to do her research right here in Lubbock, connecting remotely to a telescope in Hawaii:

“The light we capture from material swirling around the black hole was changing in brightness on minute timescales, therefore it was critical that we characterize this variability before we could properly calibrate the data and create an image”

Like we said: smarter than you.

Of course, being the middle-aged children we are, we couldn't help but make jokes about black holes and the fact that Lubbock seems like a massive one at times. I mean, anytime the dust starts to blow around here it's like a vortex from which no light can escape.

We definitely have more than our share of holes around these parts, but they're all filled with prairie dogs. Of course, the only place more lifeless and bleak than a black hole might be Odessa (rimshot).

Let's see…jokes about Odessa, prairie dogs, Avenue Q AND a Bart Reagor Photoshop? Our work is done here.

The 10 Best 'Hole in the Wall' Restaurants on 34th Street in Lubbock

34th Street is known locally as "where the work gets done," but it's also where the eats go down. (Side note: I also might be the only one that says that because nobody else I know remembers that.) Back to the point, these buildings might be unassuming from the outside, but the kitchens absolutely know what's going on.
