For many families on the South Plains, it's a Christmas tradition. The 53rd Annual Carol of Lights is on Saturday starting at 6:30pm at Texas Tech. Around 20,000 people from all over attend the ceremony which was moved to Saturday this year for a few different reasons. According to KFYO News, travel was just one of the reasons.

Provost Bob Smith discussed benefits of the change, saying “Moving the Carol of Lights from Friday to Saturday evenings will help to eliminate most conflicts with the academic calendar as it is revised for 2012 and beyond.”

Smith also said that holding the event on Saturday will “allow for greater participation by the Lubbock community and Texas Tech alumni who want to travel to Lubbock to enjoy the tradition.”

Around 20,000 people attend the event, where more than 25,000 Christmas lights illuminate the campus at the end of the event.

It will be a chilly night, but in my opinion that just sets the mood for the evening. Have you attended the Carol of Lights before? Do you plan on attending Saturday?
