The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing at the Permian Basin has received a large gift to help establish a position focused on gathering data to improve rural health. The James A. Buddy Davidson Charitable Foundation bestowed the gift, which will be used to establish an Endowed Chair in Evidence-Based Practice, with an emphasis in rural health.

School of Nursing Deal Michael L. Evans said “We have made progress in providing high-quality education to students and health care professionals, but there is more work to be done. There is still an extreme shortage of nurses and other health care providers. We are poised to address this need, and this gift will help us fill the gaps in the U.S. nursing workforce.”

The chair will be housed at the Center of Excellence in Evidence-Based Practice.
