Lubbock’s Congressman introduced legislation concerning a hot button issue.

U.S. Representative Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) introduced H.R. 6173, the PRO-LIFE Act (Protecting Life in Funding Education Act).

The bill restricts federal funding to state and local educational agencies that contract with school-based health centers, unless those centers certify they will not perform abortions or provide abortion-related materials or suggestions to any student.

“Abortion providers don’t belong in our schools,” Neugebauer stated.  “The PRO-LIFE Act ensures that federal funds aren’t going to school systems that allow student health centers to perform or advocate for abortions.”

The PRO-LIFE Act was created in part to address the Los Angeles Unified School District’s partnership with the controversial group Planned Parenthood.

“While it’s unclear as to whether this school-based Planned Parenthood will perform abortions, I have grave concerns that this clinic will encourage pregnant students to seek abortions at its nearby abortion clinic with little to no parental involvement,” Neugebauer said.

“Student health centers in schools are becoming more common across the U.S., and we need to ensure that publicly-funded schools do not become a platform for the pro-abortion agenda.”
