Tuesday, the Lubbock City Council met for the first time this year after moving their meetings to Tuesdays.

At the meeting, the council had their 2nd reading of a zoning ordinance that would allow a Covenant Health facility to be built on 90 acres of land at 7620 82nd Street, which is near U.S. 62 and just northeast of Wolfforth.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that the zoning request be approved. The Commission found that the request meets the purpose of the IHC zoning district and that it would not have a negative impact on traffic or the surrounding area.

The council voted unanimously to approve the zoning request. And the last item on the council’s agenda was the reappointment of Mayor Dan Pope to the West Texas Power Agency Board, of which there was unanimous approval for a two-year term.
