Thursday on The Chad Hasty Show, Chad spoke with two prominent figures in the auto racing world, Johnny Rutherford and Eddie Gossage.

Rutherford and Gossage were promoting the upcoming Firestone 600 race that will be held on June 06, 2015 at Texas Motor Speedway in north Fort Worth, Texas. The event is part of the Verizon IndyCar Series, and takes place on a Saturday night under the lights, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Gossage said that the cars in the Firestone 600 are just as safe, and are faster than they've ever been. The pair described the differences between the Indianapolis 500 track which is fairly flat, and the Texas Motor Speedway which has a very high bank. About the speed of the Texas track, Rutherford said, "It's just stunning, blinding how fast they run."

There will be other pre and post-race events taking place at the Speedway, including the Loud & Proud Pre-Race Show featuring Reckless Kelly, as well as Verizon IndyCar Series Driver introductions and the Running Rogue Post Race Show featuring Bleu Edmondson.

The trophy presented to the winner of the Firestone 600 bears Johnny Rutherford’s name, along with fellow Texas racing icon A.J. Foyt. The Foyt-Rutherford Trophy was introduced in 2000 after three years of different style trophies. The crystal trophy, given annually to the winner of the Firestone 600, comes from the Czech Republic where it is hand blown and takes nearly 140 hours to create. The arches on the top of the trophy represent the Alamo, and the six arches represent the six flags that have flown over the state of Texas.

Johnny Rutherford is the winner of 27 Indy car races as well as many other races, and is a member of several motor-sports halls of fame. Eddie Gossage is president of Texas Motor Speedway, and is the creator of America’s Original Nighttime IndyCar Race which began in 1997.
