On the Monday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Matt Mackowiak, GOP strategist and co-founder of MustReadTexas.com, spoke with Chad Hasty about the latest state and national news.

As the massive surge of immigrants across the border continues in Texas, many in the media have been calling Republicans "heartless" for wanting to secure the border and send the immigrants back. Mackowiak said that any time children are involved, it's a tricky situation. However, he also pointed out that in reality, only 20% of the massive surge of immigrants are unaccompanied minors, and that the situation is actually much more complicated that the media portrays it to be.

"It's important to know that only 20% of those illegal aliens who are crossing the border are children or so-called "unaccompanied minors." You have parents who have come with their children, and you have adults who are coming without children. So the problem is much more complex than some of the media coverage has been. But if we want to be really cold about it, Republicans could perhaps be seen as heartless."

However, Mackowiak also pointed out that the border crisis has actually done some good for Texas Governor Rick Perry. He said that Perry has really shown himself to be a strong Republican spokesperson on this issue, and has done a lot of good in improving his political image. Mackowiak also addressed the possibility of Perry calling the Texas State Guard to the border, saying that while Perry had contacted them several times, the final decision would come down to money.
