A former Texas Tech Chancellor is in hot water with a New York institution.

Smith last week resigned from his president’s position after being placed on administrative leave. He was accused of illegally padding his income with pay from outside companies without permission from his now-former employer, the State University of New York.

The 59 year-old Smith was allegedly paid by Pediatric Service Group and MedBest Medical Management.  The Albany Times-Union also reported that Smith was being considered by Penn State to become their next president when the scandal broke.

Dr. David Smith served as Texas Tech’s Chancellor from 2001-2006 after serving as president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  He was named Update's president in June 2006. His wife, Dr. Donna Bacchi, was serving on the faculty of Upstate as chair of the department of public health and preventive medicine when the scandal broke.
